At Bron-Y-Wendon Holiday Park, we’re open all year round so you can experience the beauty of North Wales in every season. Whilst the Welsh winter weather often calls for a day of admiring Llandudno bay from the warmth of your caravan, there are many other ways for you to spend your days. So many that we’ve put together a list of what we believe are the 10  best places to visit in North Wales in winter to help you choose…there is an activity for everyone!

Welsh Mountain Zoo

Wrap up warm and spend the day wandering around Welsh Mountain Zoo, the oldest Zoo in Wales. Discover the exciting variety of species who call the zoo their home, from snow leopards to ring tailed lemurs and california sea lions to chilean flamingos. Enjoy daily demonstrations and species talks, including the famous Penguin Parade. Situated high above Colwyn Bay, the zoo also boasts a breathtaking panoramic view of the coast, which you can enjoy from the warmth of the Penguin Café.

Gwrych Castle

Get in the spirit of Spooky Season at Gwrych Castle, an impressive gothic ruin sitting on the North Wales coast. The 19th-century castle is surrounded by 240 acres of pristine gardens and grounds for you to explore on a crisp winters day. During your visit, you may recognise elements from ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, which the castle was home to in 2020 and 2021. Keep an eye out for the famous phone box, privy and The Clink.

With something for all the family, no matter their age or ability, Boathouse Climbing Centre is the perfect place to keep everyone entertained on a rainy day. Push yourself to the limit with an indoor climbing session or the ‘Human Rat Run’ (for those who’d like to keep their feet on the ground). Those brave enough can take a ‘Leap of Faith’ or abseil from the top of the climbing tower.

Llandudno Snowsports Centre

Get a taste for Alpine living at Llandudno Snowsports Centre, where you can ski, snowboard and snow-tube 415ft above the irish sea. From taster sessions to family lessons, there’s something for everyone. Even Alpine Adventure Golf for those who don’t fancy taking on the slopes. After an exhilarating day of snowsports, take refuge in the Alpine Bar & Kitchen for a delicious hot chocolate in front of the cosy wood fire as you take in the incredible view.

Deeside Ice Arena

Go for a spin at North Wales’ only ice rink, Deeside Ice Arena, and see where your favourite celebrities train for ITV’s Dancing on Ice. With public skating sessions available everyday and Disco on Ice every Friday and Saturday, there’s always time for some ice skating fun.

Bonkerz Fun Centre

Tire out your little ones (and yourself) at Bonkerz Fun Centre, perfect for rainy day entertainment for every age. Under 3’s can enjoy the Toddler Zone, with interactive screens, ball vacuum and viewing pod for you to keep your eye on them. Alternatively, leave the little ones to play whilst you sit back and relax with coffee and cake.

Feel a rush of adrenaline at Zip World, where historical industrial sites meet adventure playgrounds. With three locations set across the Snowdonia region, you’re spoilt for choice of thrill-seeking activities. Featuring the world’s fastest (and Europe’s longest) zip line, Zip World Penrhyn Quarry is all about speed. Home to Bounce Below and the all new Underground Adventure Golf, Zip World Llechwedd is the place to play on a rainy day. Zip World Betws-Y-Coed boasts the UK’s only alpine coaster and a range of canopy pursuits for the whole family to play among the trees.

Warm up from within at Penderyn Distillery, the home of Welsh whiskey. Discover the deep history of Penderyn and how their award-winning whisky is made with an informative Distillery Tour, finished off with a selection of tasters in the Tasting Bar. For a more interactive experience, partake in a Distillery Masterclass where you will learn the true art of whisky tasting. Or head straight for the gift shop to restock your caravan.

Aber Falls Distillery

Venture a little further down the coast to Aber Falls Distillery, adjacent to the famous Aber Falls waterfall, from which the distillery takes its name. Enjoy a guided tour of the distillery and find out how a former slate works turned margarine factory became the birthplace of so many delicious gins and whiskeys.
